Welcome to the Web site of Dr. Barry Shipman. This website is being developed to inform patients, physicians, dentists and other health care providers about the need for Prosthodontic and Maxillofacial Prosthetic Treatment and Rehabilitation for patients with oral and facial and dental disabilities. The information that follows should be used as a resource by patients in need of treatment following cancers of the head, neck and mouth, dental and facial trauma, developmental problems, cleft palates, as well as those receiving radiation therapy and/or chemo-radiation for cancers in the head and neck region.

It is not uncommon for patients to develop changes in their daily oral and dental function. Many of the above mentioned conditions can affect and compromise the normal sensory and motor function. Those structures most commonly affected are the mouth, tongue, and salivary glands. These changes can affect swallowing, speech, chewing as well as appearance, self esteem and well being. Activities of daily living become more difficult as the disabilities become extreme. Rehabilitation of these conditions is possible with proper prothodontic and maxillofacial prosthetic treatment.
